About Karol Ann

Karol Ann HoeffnerKarol Ann Hoeffner works as a screenwriter in Hollywood. She writes original movies, true-stories and novel adaptations for film and television, including MTV’s All You’ve Got and the Mary/Kate and Ashley adventure, Winning London. One of her favorite screenplays, Welcome Wagon, about a college football recruitment sex-scandal based on her own true story, was optioned by Disney and green-lit for production but at the last minute, the monies for the film were used to buy a cruise ship instead. Hoeffner worries that she might not be the first writer in Hollywood to have devoted a year in her life to writing a boat.

The summer of 2005 while on the set of her MTV movie, All You’ve Got, Hoeffner wrote a book based on the screenplay, which was published in 2006. (To learn more about her experiences making a movie with Ciara, Cheetah Girls’ Adrienne Bailon and Napoleon Dynamite’s Efren Ramirez, check out “on the set.”)

That fall, Hoeffner flew to New York, met with her editor and landed a contract to write her second young adult novel from a pitch she made over lunch. That book, Surf Ed. was published in June 2007 and chosen by Barnes and Noble for their nationwide summer reading campaign.

In addition to writing, Hoeffner teaches screenwriting classes at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and conducts writing workshops. Born and bred in Texas, Hoeffner loves her adopted state of California. She is married with two children, one dog and a cat and lives quite happily at the beach.
